Biography
I am a native Spanish-speaker who was born and raised in Honduras. I obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of New Orleans, completed a predoctoral internship in Integrated Behavioral Health at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children and completed my doctoral training in Clinical Psychology at The Catholic University of America (CUA), where I pursued a concentration in Children, Families, and Cultures. I then sought out specialized training in dissemination and implementation (D&I) science as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Delaware (UD).
As an assistant professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at UD, I split my time between research, clinical, and teaching duties which align with my overarching goal of reducing barriers and improving access to high quality evidence-based services in historically marginalized and underserved communities. At the Center for Training, Evaluation, and Community Collaboration (C-TECC), I am leading the evaluation of a System of Care expansion within the State of Delaware's Division of Prevention and Behavioral Health Services, and I am leading the Spanish-adaptation of a parenting and financial well-being intervention for low-income families. In the D&I branch of the Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-up (ABC) Lab, I am co-leading the development a of roadmap for the implementation of ABC in diverse sociocultural contexts and communities around the world, as well as providing training and supervision of bilingual parent coaches who implement the intervention. In the Psychological Services Training Center (PSTC), I provide clinical supervision of doctoral students and other providers who serve children, families, and adults in the community, and support training curriculum development, quality improvement initiatives, and administrative tasks.
In pursuit of my overarching goal, my program of research is grounded in prevention science which aims to understand and address the systemic factors that contribute to the complex needs of socioeconomically disadvantaged communities, and is informed by a D&I science framework which seeks to examine disparities in access to high quality evidence-based services for these communities. I am especially passionate about the promotion of culturally and linguistically relevant care for the Latino community, and about training the next generation of scientifically-minded and culturally humble clinicians who are well-versed in evidence-based care.
