    ​Dr. Abbott is an innovator who has improved the user experience of more than one hundred million people in both telemedicine and telecommunications.  He began his work in telemedicine on a project which was conducted in conjunction with the UNC School of Medicine.  That led Dr. Abbott to design software at Siemens Medical Systems.  This highly regarded software is currently being used in hospitals and medical offices throughout the world.  Most recently Dr. Abbott has revolutionized the smart phone experience while working at Verizon Wireless.  As the designer of the Setup Wizard, Dr. Abbott has made it possible for users to backup and download their contacts and pictures on Android smart phones.  Dr. Abbott's work in telecommunications has continued with the Dialer application which integrates video calling with high definition voice.  He is also the designer of the Wi-Fi and Mobile Hotspot applications for Android and iPhones.  Numerous United States and European patents related to the design of mobile devices have been granted to Dr. Abbott.  He holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Delaware and Masters and Doctorate degrees in Human Factor Engineering and Artificial Intelligence from New Mexico State University.  In 2006, Dr. Abbott proudly returned to the University of Delaware to teach Human Computer Interaction.  This 400 level course, which he developed, is offered through the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences.
