Declaring the Major or Minor in Psychology
The Department of Psychology reviews requests to change or add the major or minor three times each year (between January 5 and 20, between May 15 and 31, and between August 1 and 15). Our decisions are based on a number of factors including the student’s GPA (2.3 minimum), our estimation of the number of seats in courses that will be available for new majors and/or minors, and the likelihood that a student will be able to complete the major or minor in a timely fashion. If you would like for your request to be considered during the next review period, please submit the appropriate electronic “change of major” form (found on SIS) and complete the Psychology Advisement tutorial (found in this Website) during one of the time periods above. Decisions will be made immediately thereafter. The probability that you will be accepted into the major increases if you a) applied during the window of time designated, b) completed the advising tutorial, c) met our GPA requirement of 2.30 (although if too many students apply, we will accept students with the highest GPAs), and d) have enough time to complete the major/minor by your expected graduation date.
