Planning your semesters

Each semester, it is your job to review the major and minor requirements. Your major or minor requirements will depend on when you entered the University and declared your major.

In UDSIS, psych majors can view a Degree Progress and unofficial transcript. These reports are computer generated and make some mistakes (especially with cross-listed courses), but they give you a good idea of what requirements you have left to complete. It is a good place to start. Please read and print yours to bring to any advising appointments.

Determing what courses to take
If you have already taken psych 100, then you must take PSYC209 (Measurement and Statistics) and PSYC207 (Research Methodology) next.  You can take 209 and 207 concurrently, or you can take one of them at a time in any order.   After that, sign up for the core competency courses, which are at the 300 level.  It does not matter which core competency course you sign up for first.   Keep in mind that you should NOT take PSYC301, 303, 325, or 334.

In your first three semesters at UD, your courses should include PSYC100 and PSYC207 or PSYC209.  In the first year, you should also be taking classes to fulfill your foreign language requirement and ENGL110.

The UD computer registration system will not allow you to register for a course if you have not fulfilled its prerequisites.  If you are following the NEW curriculum, you must complete 100, 207, and 209 with a C- before you can take any 300 level course in the major.

Checklists of courses. Print one out, and take notes on it, as you complete the curriculum. Keep yours in a safe place so you know what requirements you have completed.

Psychology courses that fulfill breadth requirements and second writing requirements

Some psychology courses can count toward the major and your breadth requirements or your second writing requirement. For example, PSYC100 fulfills a Group C requirement. PSYC415 is sometimes offered as a second writing course.  You only receive 3 total credits for the course, but it counts for two things. Fulfilling a breadth requirement in this manner allows you the flexibility to take courses toward a minor or to pursue other intellectual interests.
