Developmental Psychopathology, Emotion Regulation, links between emotion competence and academic readiness

Research Summary:

I am a sixth-year graduate student in the Clinical Science Ph.D. program. This year I am completing an APA-approved Clinical Psychology Internship in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

During my five years at the University of Delaware, I worked with Dr. Cal Izard and fellow graduate students Christopher Trentacosta, Judith Morgan, Kristy Finlon, and Stephanie Krauthamer-Ewing in the Human Emotions Lab. Our lab’s main project involved the implementation and evaluation of an emotion-centered preventive intervention program (the “Emotions Course”) in Head Start preschool classrooms.

My dissertation examines relations among emotion regulation, sustained attention, and school readiness. My master’s project investigated how Head Start mothers’ methods of coping with their children’s negative emotions relates to their children’s emotion knowledge, emotion regulation ability, social competence, and behavior problems. I received clinical training at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, the A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, Terry Children’s Psychiatric Center, Delaware Guidance Services for Children and Youth, and the University of Delaware’s Psychological Services Training Center.
