Clinical PsychologyKimberly Dasch
Research InterestsDaily Stress and Coping Research Summary: I am a fourth year graduate student in clinical psychology. My current research focuses on daily stress and coping in breast cancer patients and their partners. Our current study, conducted at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Christiana Hospital, examines the daily lives of breast cancer patients and their partners soon after mastectomy. We are studying patients’ daily event exposure and affective reactivity to daily events, and the ability of personality and marital variables to predict these indices. We are also interested in the change in event exposure and affective reactivity six months later, as well as the personality and marital variables that predict these changes. My previous research concerned the moderating effects of sociotropy and autonomy on affective and self-esteem reactivity to daily stressors. Our findings have implications for the construct validity of the Personal Style Inventory and suggest the heuristic value of a daily process design when evaluating the construct validity of depression vulnerability measures. In both my third and fourth years, my clinical practicum has been at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. At the HFGCC, I conduct therapy with cancer patients on both an outpatient and inpatient basis. I also work with cancer patients’ spouses and families as they adjust to their loved one’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. My second year clinical practicum was at the Psychological Services Training Center. At the PTSC, I conducted manualized cognitive behavioral therapy with adults with social anxiety, as well as worked with children with externalizing disorders and conducted family therapy.
