Higher Education Administration and Transforming Undergraduate Education

Having served in higher education administration for a number of years, I have been interested in topics that are of critical importance to the future of our profession and the effective education of our students. Specifically, I have studied the use of technology in the classroom to enhance learning of our students, the effective use of online (distance learning) instruction, and the creation of user-friendly advising systems. In addition, I have been quite involved in understanding and transforming general education curricula including the use of problem-based learning and infusing writing through a "writing across the curriculum" initiative.

For some time, it has been my belief that our system of higher education must be re-engineered with specific emphasis on promoting academic/administrative linkages, enhancing leadership skills of faculty members at all levels, fostering fiscal responsibility and accountability, and increasing mentoring relationships of faculty and graduate students. I have been involved in creating innovative budgeting/fiscal systems, training faculty members and staff in areas of fiscal administration, and promoting "out-of-the-box" solution-focused problem-solving methods. Finally, over the past few years, I have taken an active interest in higher education accreditation, protection of human subjects and administration of conflict of interest/disclosure policies.
