Graduation and Senior Checkout
Last updated Tuesday, May 19, 2009
Senior Checkout is a service provided by the Arts and Science Advising Office. It is designed to help you make sure you have met or will meet all the requirements for graduation.
It happens the semester before your expected graduation date (e.g., in the fall, if you expect to graduate in spring). The directors of advising in psychology review your psych major requirements, and a representative at the Arts and Science advising office reviews your remaining graduation requirements. Then the A&S advising office will create a senior checkout report and email it to your udel.edu address. If all goes well, you should receive your report in time to help you plan advance registration for your final semester (i.e., you should get it in late November if you expect to graduate the following Spring).
Keep in mind:
Senior Checkout is not an appointment--you don't need to do anything except check your @udel email. Don't delete this email document!
It's important to have the right graduation date. Check your expected graduation date in UDSIS, and change it if necessary. That's how the advising office knows to plan your senior checkout.
Senior checkouts are done in alphabetical order. If your name is Sam Zebra, your friend Andy Aardvark will have his checkout several weeks before you do. Don't panic.
If you have not received your senior checkout and you think you should have (they are usually completed in time for pre-registration for your final semester), you should contact the Arts and Science office at x3020. Don't be surprised if you don't get yours until November.
Senior checkouts are done only once--if you have changed your graduation date, you will not get another one unless you specifically request one. If you have changed your graduation date to an earlier or later date, please let the Arts and Science office know: x3020.
Graduation
You will not receive your diploma until all requirements are met, including total number of credits required (124). However, you are allowed to "walk" during graduation ceremonies even if you owe credits that you plan to complete over the summer. If you have declared on UDSIS that your "expected graduation" date is Spring 2009, for example, you can walk, even if you are not completely done. Contact the Alumni and University Relations Office for more details about this.
